BMW M2, M3, M4 and Alpina: S58 control units now via OBD
KESS3 3.62 adds OBD reading and writing for Bosch MG1CS049 after an initial Bench unlock. New options for custom tuning of supported S58 models.
Alientech supports Bosch MG1CS049 “Locked” via OBD in BMW M and Alpina models with the 3.0-liter S58 twin-turbo from 2021. The manufacturer list includes M2 and M2 CS, M3 including CS and Competition, M4 including CS, CSL and Competition, X3 M, X4 M, and Alpina B3 and B4.
Before the first OBD operation, the control unit must be unlocked in Bench mode and receive the specified patch. Further files can then be read and written through the diagnostic port. The announcement does not establish blanket support for every model year or control unit variant.
Powergate is also supported for these applications. It allows customers to use up to four modified files through the device and app; the files are managed by the supporting provider.
